Richmond is a Karoo town situated next to the N1 approximately
halfway between Cape Town and Gauteng.
Situated in the Bo-Karoo, it is a quaint town with lots of trees.
Because of the high altitude, summers are pleasant and not quite as hot
as one would expect from a Karoo town. Winters do however have some very
cold spells with frost and in some years, snow.
It is a farming town which is now also known as Richmond
Booktown, with
a newly established annual book festival in October.
There is an old age
home, hospital , doctor, two small supermarkets, butchery specialising
in venison, various small businesses, bottle stores, co-op, service
station, country club with golf course, saddle horse museum, library, municipal
office, prison, police station, magistrate's court, post office, traffic
department, various restaurants, bed and bed breakfast establishments,
churches, bookshops, gallery and school.
A local monthly newsletter is published and can be accessed via the
richmondnc.co.za webpage under
the heading

Property prices here are still fairly reasonable and rates are low.
Richmond is part of the Ubuntu Municipality, together with Loxton and
Victoria West.
Not too far from Graaff-Reinet, Nieu Bethesda, and De Aar.
